It's going to be a wonderful year filled with Faith, Learning & Growth!
Academic Intervention Services (A.I.S.), is offered to students in kindergarten through 7th grade who are struggling to meet grade level expectations. A.I.S. sessions provide students with the opportunity to revisit classroom lessons, as well as standards and skills that they have not yet mastered. This year, A.I.S. will be offered through both a push-in and pull-out model. Teacher referral, diagnostic assessments such as i-Ready, in addition to math and reading screeners, help us to identify students who may be candidates for A.I.S.
It would be greatly appreciated if you would consider donating tissues & disinfecting wipes to be used in the A.I.S. classroom! Thank you!☺
I do not use Class Dojo, however, I am extremely responsive to emails! For more urgent matters, feel free to call the Main Office: 631-475-0422
Important Notes:
If your child has an existing I.E.S.P. or an I.E.P. that was not transferred upon registering at HARS, you must request services in writing from the Patchogue-Medford School District by June 1st of the current school for it to remain intact for the following school year. Failing to do so will result in your child forfeiting all special education services for that upcoming school year.
If your child is absent or A.I.S. is cancelled, there are no makeup sessions. I try my best to provide makeup sessions if I am able to, however, this is not always the case.
Ways to Support your Child:
Check out the Libby App: Free ebooks & audiobooks from your library. If your child is reading a novel in class, consider downloading the audiobook from the library. For struggling readers, listening to the chapter(s) again will reinforce key ideas. Have your child "stop and jot" as they listen.
Make a weekly study map. If there are multiple tests approaching, it may be beneficial to help your child determine which assessments will require the most preparation, and which will require less preparation. Have you child think about which study methods make the most sense for them (see guide below).
Use a planner (upper elementary & middle school). Putting pencil to paper improves memory, clarity and organization!
Keep flash cards handy. Reviewing letters, numbers, irregular words and math facts builds fluency. Consider storing flash cards in the seat pockets of the car and your child can review while you're on the road!
