Welcome to ELA! My name is Miss Curry, and I am so thrilled to be teaching 6-8 ELA here at Holy Angels. As a Diocese of Rockville Centre graduate myself, I find it so rewarding to be working here after four years teaching in the Diocese of Bridgeport in Connecticut.
If you ever have any questions, please feel free to reach out via email to kcurry5573@holyangelsregional.org or to message me through Remind (Codes Located Below)
Year-Long Themes
6th: Characters and Identity
7th: What It Means to Be a Hero
8th: Good vs. Evil
Current Explorations in Class
6th Grade: The Core of a Character
Students begin the year reading The Lightning Thief. This year is all about learning true literary analysis: we will be reading to find meaning and understanding the WHY in their texts. Students will learn how to write for analysis by expanding on literary elements they learn in class and discover in their texts. Students will ask themselves the question: Why are characters the way that they are?
7th Grade: The Hero's Journey
The Outsiders is a text students will never forget, which is why we will start the year reading the novel! After their extensive work on learning how to analyze literature and put that analysis into words, 7th graders will be working on expanding on these skills. We will continue to explore the ways in which we become better readers and writers. Students will discover that heroes aren't always what we imagine.
